The SPCA of Westchester is indebted to the hundreds of individuals and family members who volunteer at our shelter and clinic.
If you have a love for animals, we have a volunteer opportunity for you! Whether you are interested in dog walking, cat care, grooming, greeting shelter visitors, event planning, taking part on our Golden Outreach Pet Therapy Program, shelter beautification, administrative work or opening your home to a foster animal, we can always use your help. If you have a special talent such as photography, carpentry or art, we can work together to find creative ways to use your skills.
Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age or older to assist “hands on” in our dog walking/training and cat socializing program. For those over 18, click here to download our Volunteer Application.
We have a special Junior Volunteer program for young people who are under 18 (between the ages of 10-17). Please click here for the Junior Volunteer Application which also explains the activities that are available.
There are many other fun activities for kids of all ages to take part in. Please see our Humane Education page to learn more about our Reading to Dogs, Journaling with Cats, Camp Critter and Birthday Party Programs!
Orientation & Training
All new volunteers are required to attend a general information session. These sessions are typically held monthly. Pre-registration for each session is required and space is limited. Please contact our Volunteer Coordinator in order to register for the next available session at Joanne@spca914.org or call (914) 941-2896 ext. 28.
Please download our Volunteer Manual which explains all of the aspects of volunteering at the SPCA, as well as our mission and policies.
Once you’ve completed your volunteer orientation and if you chosen to take part in Canine Companion Program, please review the Canine Companion Manual. If you’ve chosen to volunteer with our furry felines, please read our Feline Care Program Manual. To read about the many volunteer opportunities and programs we offer both our dogs and cats, see our Behavior and Enrichment page.
